LIFE
Going up from Bastia Mondovì, and after several curves, you reach the site Bricco, where you find the Bricco del Cucù cellar. Dario Sciolla is a passionate winemaker and vinifies since the 1990. His wines are profound and full of temperament. The youngest daughter Irene has just joined the company, managing the cellar and the vineyards jobs. The oldest daughter Chiara, works already since many years in the company, dealing with the commercial and administrative matters.
VINEYARDS
These unique places are full of vineyards, woods and little hamlets. The altitude on the highest hill is 500 m and there you find the Sacrarium of San Bernardo, that was the bulwark of the partisans that from this hill saw the whole valley and all the alpine arch. Around the Sacrarium theres the dolcetto vineyard whence they produce the Bricco San Bernardo, on a white and calcareous soil, ideal for this type of wine.
WINES
Dario Sciolla believes in the Dolcetto and in its potentiality in ageing as other red piedmonts wines. Anyway his curiosity leads him to experiment and he tells us he would like to plant and produce Riesling. At the moment, the only white wine is the Langhe Bianco Livor 2012, 50% arneis and 50% sauvignon, agreeable and full, with a marked final acidity. Among the red, the Langhe Dolcetto 2012 is classic and intense, with marked tannins. The Dogliani 2012 is different instead, robust and fruity, with softer tannins and more alcohol content.
